Enthusiastically compared by some to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Visitors concerns a time-traveling, medieval knight and! his lowly servant, both lost in the 20th century and both shocked by the discovery of their descendants' reversal of fortunes. The film works not only as a nutty bit of slapstick, but as a cheeky satire about class conflict. The Visitors deserves its admirers, but it doesn't deserve Just Visiting, an oddly inappropriate remake featuring the same cast and director, all of whom are undercut by an annoyingly sentimental spin on the original story. This time, Reno and Clavier inexplicably end up in a modern-day U.S. instead of France, and the lure of freedom for Clavier's downtrodden character is tied up not in economics but in his attachment to a fetching neighbor. Features: Wide Screen PresentationConsidering that Andrzej Sekula, director of The Pleasure Drivers, was Quentin Tarantino's cinematographer on Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, it's not too surprising that this 2005 film sometimes echoes the latter's approach. Indeed, were it not for the fact that the story makes little sense, the dialog! ue isn't funny, the characters are poorly drawn, and the acting is almost uniformly sub-par, you might think this was the work of Tarantino himself. As it is, Sekula has made a movie that clearly values style over substance, achieving a modicum of the former and almost none of the latter. Screenwriter Adam Haynes' story revolves primarily around a low-life "caregiver" (Lauren Holly) tending to a mentally unstable young man (Angelo Spizzirri) whose father, some kind of cult leader, has been less than forthcoming with the financial support she depends on; her solution is to kidnap the kid's equally weird sister (Steffany Huckaby). Meanwhile, a full-of-himself professor-therapist (Angus MacFadyen) who constantly whispers Freudian drivel into a tape recorder finds himself rejected by his wife and glommed on to by an oversexed student (Lacy Chabert). These folks, along with "a vicious lesbian hit woman" (no, really), come together somewhere in the Southern California desert, whe! re the film mercifully comes to a close. Sekula favors moody l! ighting and odd camera angles, the better to illuminate a cast of scenery-chewing, unlikable characters drifting through a tale that will intrigue almost no one. The cover blurb notes that The Pleasure Drivers has been "described as funny, sexy, edgy and dangerous." As crass as she is (she kisses and tells, even including the sordid details of her losing her virginity in the front seat of a Chevy Impala), it's hard not to feel sympathetic for Alley. She admits that following a miscarriage in her third month of pregnancy and subsequent diagnosis of infertilityâ€"which were also broadcast in the tabloids--her weight started ballooning. And as much as she dishes about Hollywood actors such as Tim Matheson (of Animal House fame), she has the decency to leave Parker Stevenson, her ex-husband and father of their two adopted children! , out of the gossiping. The screenplay's comic complications take a little too long to reach critical mass, but when they do, Reiner masterfully controls the essential screwball timing and Alley, Pullman, Gertz, and screen veterans John Randolph and Frances Sternhagen thoroughly deliver. --Tom KeoghThis first theatrical outing for t! he ubiquitous Olsen twins is their take on The Parent Trap meet s The Prince and the Pauper. The foster kid comes to a charity camp abutting the rich girl's summer estate and--presto--the identical strangers meet, hatch a plan to solve both their dilemmas, and switch identities. Directed by Andy Tennant (Ever After), this PG-rated film features some decent G-rated chemistry between Alley and Guttenberg and surprisingly uncloying performances by Mary-Kate and Ashley. The rating is for mild language. (Ages 5 and up) --Kimberly HeinrichsDonna Selby (Kirstie Alley) and Ricardo Thornton (Delroy Lindo) were two mentally disabled children who were taken from their parents and i! nstitutionalized. Donna was angry and afraid; she hated the heavy medications, uncompassionate staff, and had difficulty coping. Then Donna met cheerful and optimistic Ricardo, who had a calming effect on her. Their friendship blossomed over 20 years. Then they were told that the institution was closing. Patients were re-assigned to other institutions, group homes and apartments. Could Donna and Ricardo survive in the outside world? Would they be able to survive without each other? Follow the quest of this mentally disabled couple to find each other again. In 1959 South Korea was mired in poverty. By 1979 it had a powerful industrial economy and a vibrant civil society in the making, which would lead to a democratic breakthrough eight years later. The transformation took place during the years of Park Chung Hee’s presidency. Park seized power in a coup in 1961 and ruled as a virtual dictator until his assassination in October 1979. He is credited with modernizing South Korea, but at a huge political and social cost.

South Korea’s p! olitical landscape under Park defies easy categorization. The state was predatory yet technocratic, reform-minded yet quick to crack down on dissidents in the name of political order. The nation was balanced uneasily between opposition forces calling for democratic reforms and the Park government’s obsession with economic growth. The chaebol (a powerful conglomerate of multinationals based in South Korea) received massive government support to pioneer new growth industries, even as a nationwide campaign of economic shock therapyâ€"interest hikes, devaluation, and wage cutsâ€"met strong public resistance and caused considerable hardship.

From the author: Objective: Numer! ous studies on alcoholism treatment have indicated that there ! are many steps the alcoholic must take before he can be alcohol free, and the admission that he is an alcoholic is the first step towards that goal. Ibis study concerns the validation of a 20-item questionnaire, for the objective evaluation of the insight status of alcoholics. Method: Alcoholic men (N = 58) were interviewed by three clinicians, and the decisions of all of the interviewers were concordant in categorizing 44 out of the 58 interviewees into three insight groups: poor, fair and good. Validation of the questionnaire was made against the 44 concordant categorizations. Results: The assessments of the patient's insight state by these two different methods (the interview results and the scores of this scale) were found to be highly and significantly correlated (r = .79, p [is less than] .001). Conclusions: This scale may be useful for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the insight of alcoholics, and may provide fundamental information in establishing different therap! eutic strategies based on different insight states of the alcoholics in the recovery process. Others phases of recovery are transition, early recovery, and ongoing recovery.
